St Patrick's Day

San Pedro La Laguna, Sololá, Guatemala
Finished my research. Decided I would go to Xela (short for Xelajú, the original Mayan name; renamed to Quetzaltenango by the Spanish) for Spanish studies. Made reservations for a place to stay for the first couple of days. Then I took a stroll around town to see what they had going for St Patty's Day.

Had a burger for lunch . Read and relaxed all afternoon with a couple of rum&cokes.

Tried to get pics of the villages around the lake after dark. Guess I need to do more study on camera settings.

Headed over to the Wild Rover, the only Irish pub in town. A couple other restaurants kind of made an effort for St Patrick's Day, but I figured this was the place to be.

Had onion rings for dinner, with a couple of beers. I had thought to leave early, but a couple people I knew came in.

Next thing I know, I'm drinking rum&cokes and talking to all kinds of people.

Several hours later, I stumbled out of there. I didn't look to see how much the rum/cokes were, but all totalled I only spent $20. Felt like I'd drunk at least 20 rum/cokes. Anyway, heading down the dark walkway to the hotel, I stumbled and scratched myself up slightly, but made it to my bed okay.
