ATL to TN, barely!!

Atlanta, Georgia, United States
I’ve decided at the last minute to start blogging again, only because I need to find out if bad luck warnings mean “Stop, don’t go” or “Persevere and it will all be worth it”!  Guess we all have to live or read to the end of this trip!  So, day before trip, I think I’m being organized - spent the day getting Mom and Bud settled (meds, shopping, eating dinner with them, getting Mom’s pedicure so she looks good til I get back, etc...), but along the way, I turned refrig on at the RV at 1pm and stayed with Mom til 8:45pm - rushed back to RV storage (since they close at 9pm) just to check the RV refrig and put a couple last items in.  Freezer/refrig were warm - gas turned on, should be working.  Gave my panic call to cousin Don, checked out several things he said, convinced myself that maybe it was starting to cool.  Called Linda to alert her to the crisis, we both had 2 cold bags of food to go.  I also contacted my recent RV repairman who has been very helpful, even by phone.  We agreed to phone consult in am if it wasn’t working.  That night I also discovered a note in my mailbox from an Emory nurse and pharmacist husband who had been interested in renting my house 2 days a week while they do their Emory shifts - had talked about this 3 months ago and never heard from them, so thought the idea was gone.  But they are interested in renting, so I now had to do a repeat clean up of house, and leave out clean linens, and make a plan to call them from the road.  So, Wed, Aug 1 morn,  Sara and I are up bright and early, only the refrigerator/freezer foods need to be packed, stop to get Linda and her Weim, Maggie (who is an RV virgin!!) and out to our RV storage space - only to discover the continued warm refrig.  Panic call to Dan, the RV man, and he discovers that my house batteries are in store mode, and tells me the gas cannot ignite refrig pilot if it is not in use mode - call him back if not cooling in 2 hours!!  And guess what - 1 hour later, we see definite cooling!  On the road by 11:30, feeling fine.  Just one more stop to have tire pressure checked - usually do that south of city, but since going north, follow Waze directions to “closest” Discount Tire.  Unfortunately, following those directions took us back into town, I 285 traffic, and never found the store at listed address - caught in horrible traffic, 1 hour later made it to another Discount Tire - great service as usual, go to start RV and battery is dead!!  Fortunately, for Emergency Start button that uses house battery, we were able to get going.  But another call to Dan, RV repair, to ask if I just need to turn around and go home.  “No, you can always start it with Emergency Start Button, we’ll look into that problem after the trip”, says he!  So now 2:30 pm and we are finally getting out of town!!!  We had planned to take I85 to Charlotte, but were advised of bad construction, so headed north to Asheville, planning to hit I 81 north through NY since friend Cindy goes that way to her family’s Canadian home.  This day we drove through lots of rain, but it let up as we pulled into Warrior Path State Park, TN.  A nice wooded park with a view of the lake from our site and the rain let up long enough for us to walk dogs.  Great to get to our site about 6pm and relax for the night!
