Heading to Chub Cay

Chub Cay, Berry Islands, Bahamas
We are having a sea day today heading over to Chub Cay, hoping for happy calm seas. If all goes well we should be there by 1:30 lots of time to explore and enjoy there beaches. We will be traveling along the great Bahama Bank, it is fairly shallow as you travel along this bank of sand. You can anchor there in some places but it is a busy route so you have to be careful of the big ships passing by. Our plan is to just get to Chub Cay in one go, slower sail boats would likely do this trip in 2 days.

I forgot to mention the other day crossing the Gulf Stream we saw dancing dolphins they are the happiest mammals and love to play in your wake .

Winds are coming from the North East today so we will be heading into them today.

More on the marina later it is under construction reno's so it will be interesting to see what state it is in. Oh another great day, much calmer day on the water which was lovely. We left at 6:45AM and arrived just outside the entrance to Chub Cay at 2:30. We traveled slow today to conserve fuel. It was cool to start our day but got progressively warmer and was 85 when we arrived. We stopped for lunch 1/2 and ate on the bow of the boat in the sun it was a moment you dream will happen :-)) Just outside of the Chub Cay there is a great snorkel spot, Mamma Rhoda Reef so we anchored there and went for our snorkel adventure of the trip. We didn't stay a long time but long enough to see many great fish we need to purchase a chart so we can identify them and the amazing coral.

So the marina has state of the art floating docks which are just great there was zero breeze so docking was a breeze . The place was basically empty it was really odd to see hardly anyone here a couple of fishing boats. The pool was lovely but the pool bar was not open, they had a make shift restaurant so the amenities are still in the works. We walked to the beach which was stunning and at that moment we decided if we come here again we will anchor in the bay and dingy to the beach for the day it was so beautiful.

Back to the boat to get the salt off us and El Nido, we have decided to stay on board tonight and get to bed early. We need to start our day tomorrow early because of the winds, oh yes the lovely winds are starting and we need to get to Nassau before Saturday...Friday is insane for winds up to 35km nasty, so tomorrow morning should be there by 10AM. We will hang out at the Atlantis marina for a few days, really not a hardship at all.

Before I sign off what did we see, 2 birds, lots of tropical fish, beautiful coral, a few dolphins and thank goodness no sharks.

Sorry to be bearer of bad news, Bryan, but West Marine has just announced the closure of all their Canadian stores, each store closing as the lease runs out. Victoria will be the last on the Island to close in 2017.

Your trip looks and sounds amazing. Keep the photos coming, it is a fantastic place. I haven't been there in more years than I wish to admit to.

Oh no Rob that is a very sad thing but good for the pocket book hehe. They are really popular in the US they hold the market here for boat supplies too bad that is not the case in Canada. We are loving the Bahama's so far it's all I dreamed it would be!
