Traveling to Long Island

Long Island, Out Islands, Bahamas
Good morning

We were off the dock by 7am on route to a few hours of beach time . Our first try at exiting George Town harbour was through the North channel rocks we quickly approached some huge breakers and waves hitting broad side so the captain made the section to turn around and exit the way we came in yesterday very good call skipper. It took us 1/2 hour to make that course change, the Conch cay cut was much more civilized! So we are in the open ands seas are pretty good should arrive at the beach by 11 :-)

So we arrived at Flying Fish Marina in Clarence town around 2, first stop was the fuel dock. A few fisherman had arrived at the dock and were tossing in their scraps and yes in deed it attracted the sharks just like in Bimini crazy! . The locals here said there were no sharks at the beach at the next little Island so we went over there anchored and Bryan and Craig snorkeled over to the wonderful sandy beach, Marjorie and I decided to stay on the boat and soak up some rays. My toe is not really great so the thought of pushing it into a set of fins didn't appeal to me . Long Island is just that very long and flat like most of the Exuma Islands.

We watched the sharks on the dock later, early evening while more fisherman were feeding them scraps there were Lemon Sharks, Nerf Sharks and Black Tiip sharks, Sting Ray, Tarpon and more it was a fish frenzy something to see.

We made our way to the local pub / restaurant for dinner it was a great meal and good conversation with some of the local fisherman. Turns out that one of the boats frequents Vancouver Island a lot and plans to build a home there. We asked them if we could buy some fresh fish from them and they graciously gave us some so tomorrow night will be fresh fish...yummy! We met a local guide at the pub so next time we come back here we will plan to spend a day or 2 exploring the caves and blue holes.

We have tried several times to fish but no luck there must be some local knowledge we need to know to really make that work.

Early to bed as the skipper wants us off the dock super early it should be good weather.

Night all.

Hi crew of El Nido. Thanks for the updates and great stories ! I especially like the red wine/hull cleaning; the disappearing dinghy and of course monkey woman! Boating adventures always include hilarious escapades. Safe travels tomorrow. I saw the channel turn around on AIS and wondered what the heck you encountered! Cheers, h
