Cetinje, Cetinje Municipality, Montenegro
Today was my first full day in Montenegro and it was going to be busy leaving the Capital Podgorica, for the former Capital Cetinje, stopping in Budva, before ending in Kotor. I did not want to lose time waiting for buses but online information said this route was busy with frequent buses.
The hotel served breakfast and this was going to be my only breakfast as the rest of the trip would be private apartments. The hotel rear gates open into the bus station so I had direct access.
I thought I had bought tickets for the 9.15 bus but they sent me to the platform for the 9.38 bus wasting half an hour already. Ticket was only 4 euros.
It drove for quite a bit around Podgorica streets I had walked yesterday before heading out to Cetinje. This was the historic Capital when Montenegro gained its independence and had a short lived Monarchy.
The bus was full but at Cetinje only one other person got off with me. The rest must have been heading to the coast or Kotor.
The town is compact and can be done in a short walking loop from the bus station. First I went to the Djukanovic Palace which is now a private residence.
Instead I walked a block to the National Museum of Montenegro but it seemed to be closed and did not have any times or information posted.
Another block away is the Monastery but this also seemed to be closed. You could see the size of the complex in the distance.
Just across was the King Nicholas Palace but this was also closed. It was close to 11am so everything should be open by now and it is not a National Holiday. One of the souvenir shops said that they would not open today.
As I had to make it to Budva before ending in Kotor today I decided to continue on from the bus station and not invest any more time here. It was a shame everything was closed on a Saturday morning and not sure why
