Today I had three stops and would be crossing three countries. First leg would be to leave Kotor and take a bus to Herceg Novi which is the last town before Croatia.
I left early at 8am and the church bells were ringing for Sunday morning in Kotor. At the bus station I had to wait for the 8.44 bus which cost 5.50 EU
For the route we drove around the Bay of Kotor which had some stunning views had I had more time to explore. It was more like a Norwegian Fjord and the bus takes an hour to drive around the entire bay to cross to the other side
There were boat tours where you could visit the town of Perast and the Island Churches but I did not plan for those though they would look quite nice on a day like this.
We reached Herceg Novi by 9.44am. First thing at the bus station I got my onward ticket to Dubrovnik at 11.10am for 23 EU. There was a sudden price jump for a border crossing even though all the buses inside Montenegro had been only 5 Euros. Online bus information is unreliable so fortunately I did have a bus for this next leg to take me into Croatia.
The historic town is small and walkable even though I had just over an hour to explore. The road from the bus station leads down into the small town square.
From there is a tower like gate which will lead you to a church where they were doing morning Sunday service.
Walking down the steps will take you to the lower castle. I did not want pay the 5 Euros to go in and was short on time.
I did not plan on climbing the steps to the upper castle at the top of the town but the town is small and this was the only other way to go.
I made my way back to the bus station to wait. Most people skip Herceg Novi and drive straight thru from Kotor to Dubrovnik or vice versa.
