Our first port of call today
was Arashio Beya Sumo Stable
@ Hamacho Station.
We arrived too late as we saw other touros walking away and
when we got there, got a couple of quick snaps and they lowered the blinds. A bit disappointing
but understandable.
We then metro-ed to Ueno Park where we spent the rest of the day visiting a variety of places. We first had brunch in a Chinese eatery in the Ameyoko Market Place. It even snowed very briefly whilst we were there.
We all then went to the National Museum of Nature and Science. Located in the northeast corner of Ueno Park, the
National Museum of Nature and Science is one of Japan's biggest science
museums, with over 10,000 exhibits that explore everything from outer space and
dinosaurs to the unique ecosystems of Japan and the world’s latest advances in
technology. There were interesting exhibits there which we all enjoyed.
Mum tried to get to the Munch exhibition at the Art Museum,
but the lines were crazy long so she went to The National Museum
of Western Art instead. There are 13 paintings by
Claude Monet which include one of his famed paintings ‘Water Lilies’.
She also
walked around the Ueno grounds and chatted to the water drawer who drew a horse
(Mum’s Chinese zodiac sign), Pisces, a koala and kangaroo for her.
Dad went to the Tokyo
National Museum which he noted was good.
The kids spent lots
of time looking at the exhibits at the National
Museum of Nature and Science.
From there, hanger set in again (it was 6pm by this time).
Rhys wanted to make his own way home to Waseda, so he did.
The rest of us went to the Tokyo Dome where we found some ramen soups for dinner, then baulked
at the Thunder Dolphin Rollercoaster (we all initially were gung-ho eager to
have a ride) and decided that courage was not on our side seeing it whip in and
around the building and very high up. We had a look around then split off
again.
Dad and Shae went back to Shinjuku to have a look around the
bright lights area.
Mum, Anai and Owen went home via Picassos Supermarket and
stocked up on a few groceries.
