Had a 7am breakfast then, Randy came to pick us up to take us to
Sabang for a day of fun and adventure.
We firstly went to buy some tickets for the Underground River
1600PHP (we were told these may be sold out, but luckily they weren't today) +
1100PHP (for our family) for the sea ferry transfer. Had to wait about 15
minutes for a ferry to become available. Only transfer 8 people maximum each,
so we heard it can be a slow process. 15 minutes on the ocean, we arrived into
a little cove where we got given headsets and hard hats then another 10 seater
boat took us on the 90 minute round trip through the Underground River. Was
quite amazing and the area has recently been declared a new Natural Wonder
site.
We then ferried back to Sabang and got tickets for the zip line (430PHP
pp). All of us wanted a go except Dad (as he broke his little toe yesterday
getting out of the kayak).
We got a transfer along the beach to a certain point, then a
bamboo raft across a small stretch of river, then walked about another 100 m
along more beach, then up about 100m up a hill to the start of the zip line.
Was an exhilarating experience zip lining over the ocean. The impact of landing
was quite abrupt. Rhys grazed his eye and Anai got her head on impact. Luckily
they're okay though.
Next was a local lunch at a local eatery (curry chicken was the
winner, with bitter melon veges).
Randy then drive us out to Hundred Caves, which is a newly
established tourist attraction run by the local community. Cost 450PHP pp and
we had 3 guides with us who were absolutely fantastic attending to our needs
and warning us of potential hazards. The tour took 1.5 hours and took us
through amazing formations, sometimes tight passageways and an area which we
had an option to crawl through called the 'dog walk' (the kids enjoyed this
bit). We were all sweating by the end of the walk, though the caves were really
cool inside. We all really enjoyed this insight into a little known and less
popular tourist attraction in Sebang. It probably is nicer this way that it is not
over run by tourists. We can only imagine what it will be and look like in a
few years time .
.. a cringe worthy thought!
On the way back 'Love and Peace', we drove past an aquaponic farm
that sold live lobsters so we stopped to have a look and Dad bought a kilo of
lobster for 2000PHP. We ended up with 3 reasonably sized lobsters which we had
for dinner (special request to cook them).
Whilst waiting for dinner to be cooked, the whole family went for
e kayak and swim just before the sun went down. The river was so welcoming and
the water temperature was perfect.
For dinner, we also had pork schnitzel which was yummy! Steve the
owner is German and I think he taught the locals how to cook it.
After dinner, we got pampered with 30 minute massages (500PHP per
hour) for everyone (except Owen). Was lovely and a relaxing way to end a day
off fun and adventure.
