Asakusa - Forest of Owl

Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan
So we got up at 4.30am and headed out the door at 5.30 for Gimpo Airport (via the airport line) for our early morning JL90 flight to Tokyo. Dad had surprised us all by booking us all into Business Class (using Frequent Flyer points), so we also had access to the Korean Air Lounge (QANTAS reciprocal benefits). Our flight was delayed half an hour and we were in the air and enjoying Business Class by 8.30am. The seats were awesome as we could recline to a horizontal sleeping position. The breakfast wasn’t overly impressive in our opinion.
We landed at 10.30am into a beautiful Tokyo morning … 7 degrees and blue skies! After clearing immigration and customs, we withdrew some yen then figured out how to buy a 3 day train pass well as how to get to our accommodation LY Inn Ryogoku in Sumida. We had had a few issues with booking this place as we’d wanted to cancel the reservation but they ended up charging us 90% of the rate, so we kept the reservation (and crossed our fingers that it was still happening). Rhys was the expert at getting us there. The place was actually really nice, so all good.
After settling in, we ventured out and walked to Asakusa. Nearby was also saw the ‘Tokyo Skytree’ which is a broadcasting, restaurant and observation tower. It is also really close to our accommodation. We saw the 'Super Dry Hall', people call it ‘the golden poo’ but it's actually ‘a flame’ meant to represent the passionate heart of the Asahi Beer company. We enjoyed the vibe of Asakusa. An interesting place Shae, Anai, Owen and Mum popped in to see was ‘Forest of Owl’ (1000JPY includes a free drink from a vending machine). There were about 8 types of owls which were mostly tethered, but you could get up close to them and pat them.  Was a bit sad as they seemed zombie like. There was also a kookaburra, hedgehogs, otters (which the kids enjoyed interacting with), sugar glider possums, a big lizard, chinchilla and other little critters.
Unfortunately for us, things were shutting up for the night in Asakusa and there was so much more to see, so we vowed to return in the coming days.
