Travel Day

This morning we essentially started our trip home, by heading south on US Rt . 101. The beginning of the trip was along the coast and through the redwood forest; unfortunately for
the first hour it was very foggy and we couldn’t appreciate the ocean views. Further along as we turned inland the fog disappeared and we could enjoy the beautiful redwood forest and later on the hardwood forests of the mountains. In “Redwood Valley” we turned east on CA Rt. 20, and as we traveled east the mountains leveled out and the rolling hills turned from lush forests to grass covered hills what was mostly ugly dead grass. Entering the Sacramento valley the landscape changed to agriculture, that included corn and unidentified produce, and what we think are pistachio trees. We turned south on I-5 and then east on I-80 to our campground in “Citrus Heights”, a Passport America campground. Today was a long day on the road, 365 miles that took us 9 hours; it was a long drive because most was on 2 lane roads that wound through and over the mountains. While it was long it was also a drive
through the beautiful country side.
