Non-Travel Day

This morning we headed south on I-15 to UT Rt . 92 east and the “Timpanogos Cave National Monument”, this is a series of sandstone caves in which the visitor can take a guided tour and see many natural cave formations. The first tour that was available was around 2:00 and the climb to the cave entrance was difficult, so we decided to pass. Leaving the visitor’s center we continued east on Rt. 92 and Rt. 114 through the mountains to “Cascade Springs” a National Forest location, where we walked around several areas of mountain springs, ponds and the resulting streams. We then returned to Rt. 92 and headed through the mountains to US Rt. 189, where we turned south towards the city of Provo. Our next stop was at “Bridal Veil Falls”, where we were able to view the falls from a parking lot along the side of the highway. It was a beautiful high falls that is full of Indian legends. We then returned to the highway and headed north over this scenic byway to Heber City, and then Park City. Park City is an old mining town full of history and for better or worse a lot of modern condos and ski resorts; we were here to visit historic Main Street. Coincidentally there was a street fair on Main Street today, so we had double the fun, main street consisted of old buildings that have been converted into shops and restaurants, and with today’s street fair of merchandise vendors and food vendors there were plenty of people on the street. At the point where we were the farthest from the parking lot it started to rain, a thunder and lightning storm, fortunately it only lasted about 10 minutes. Later on the trip back to the camp ground we ran into another thunderstorm with heavy wind and rain, they needed the rain here.
