 Travel Day

Because we didn’t have far to travel today we did not rush this morning and had a leisurely breakfast . Once on the road we headed east on US Rt. 40, where we passed through beautiful mountain country containing small towns and large ski resort areas, the road for the most part was good but we did encounter a climb of 6 miles at a 6% grade followed by a descent of 6% for 6 miles and then 4 miles at 5%; we took it extremely easy on both the ascent and descent. Reaching I-70 there was a backup of traffic to get onto the interstate, the system of traffic lights only allowing one car at a time to enter the interstate was the cause. Once on I-70 east we were stuck in a traffic jam for several miles, and then for no apparent reason the traffic started to roll again. Approaching our destination of “Golden CO” we again encountered a long hill climb with a severe grade, and on the trip going down the east side of the mountain the state had erected numerous signs warning truckers of the 6% grade for 9 miles that included sharp turns, the descent was broken up with somewhat level areas, but trip down was a bit nerve racking. We are staying at the “Dakota Ridge RV Resort” in Golden CO and we will be here for at least 4 nights. We were lucky to get a site at the end of the row where we can look out over the surrounding mountains.
