Travel Day

Our first destination for the day was the “Bonneville Salt Flats” . The land is administered by
the BLM, and there is a paved road up to a point just short of the race rack. Because we were towing the trailer I decided not to drive out onto the salt flats. The salt flats is a huge expanse of flat land varying in color from white to a light gray. Traveling east on I-80 in Utah was even more boring that back in Nevada, we went approximately 35 miles over a stretch of road that was almost perfectly flat with flat land on either side for miles. We stopped for a picnic lunch in a parking lot along the southern edge of the Great Salt Lake, the area has been hurt by a continuing drought and it could be seen in the lake level, we had to walk for over ten minutes from the shore line to the edge of the water. This part of the lake is very shallow and so part of the area over which we walked was still muddy. We arrived around 1:30 at our campground, “Pony Express RV Resort” in North Salt Lake, where we will be staying for the next week.

We envy you so much. Salt Lake City, what a great town. Be sure and go to Park City while there. You will love it. Also visit the tabernacle. We are packing to RV up to Charleston, SC specifically James Island for a family gathering. Be safe.
