Non-Travel Day

This morning we stayed back at the camper, washing the outside and cleaning the inside . After lunch we headed north to the city of Ogden; our first stop was at “Union Station” where we visited the Railroad Museum that includes the history of the railroad in Utah along with model R.R. displays, R.R. artifacts and old steam engines. It was a great place to spend the afternoon; also housed in the building is a small automobile museum that we spent some time in. Leaving the museum we walked across the street and strolled along the historic 25th street, an area with shops and restaurants housed in historic buildings, but nothing outstanding. We decided to have dinner at “The Prairie Schooner Steak House”, based on nothing other than an add in a brochure for the Rodeo. The décor inside of the restaurant was on par with a Disney theme restaurant; all of the tables were booths around the outside of the rooms that were covered to simulate the covered wagons the pioneers used to travel west, and the seats were rough cut logs. In the center of the rooms there were scenes of pioneer life that in several cased included small campfires. To top it off, the food was great. After dinner we headed over to the “Ogden Pioneer Days Rodeo”. This was the first night of a week-long rodeo competition that included many professional rodeo contestants. The events included all of the traditional rodeo events plus the mutton busting event for the 8 and under kids, the wild cow milking contest and a daredevil motorcycle demonstration at the end of the night’s events. It was a great night of good family fun and competition.
