Travel Day

We got on the road a little late today because of stops at the grocery store and the post office . Once we got started we headed west on US Rt. 40 out of Utah and into Colorado, for the first 60 miles in CO there was nothing but high desert, it was a desolate place and a boring drive. Gradually the scenery improved, somewhere along the way we spotted a herd of buffalo grazing on the prairie, and by the time we reached Steamboat Springs we were seeing beautiful green mountains. Leaving Steamboat Springs we had to climb into the mountains up to “Rabbit Ears Pass” which was a 7 mile climb at a 7% grade, it took a little extra time to make the summit as we were only going between 40 & 45 for most of the way, but we did make it. There was a brief period where we drove through rolling hills before we started back down; the descent however was not bad as it was only 3 miles at a 6% grade but with sharp curves, a short time later we had another descent for 2 miles and after that we stayed at the higher elevation. Our stop for the night is at Immediately after hooking up the utilities and coming into the camper we had a thunder & lightning storm that lasted about 20 to 30 minutes and produced heavy rains and enough pea size hail to accumulate on the ground by
the camper. Because the campground didn’t have either TV service or Wi-Fi it was a quiet but enjoyable evening.
