Travel Day to Emerald Bay - Great Exuma Island

Long Island, Long Island, Bahamas
What a surprise I'm up really early I just can't sleep in on this trip. I woke up several times in the night to our anchor alarm but fell back to sleep quickly. The anchor alarm is a very cool app for your IPhone you can set the point you dropped anchor and it will then calculate a radius around our boat if your boat goes past any of these points an alarm goes off, you do not want your anchor to come loose and drift away in the night. In the olden days before technology you would assign 1mates to stay up and watch the anchor you would do this in shifts, give there is only two of us that would not be fun.

We are making our way to Emerald Bay Marina http://www .marinaemeraldbay.com/ and we will be there for several days because of another wind storm. This is not a real hardship as this place looks amazing and shares all the resort facilities with the adjoining Sandals Resort. There is sun in the forecast for every day but high winds so we stay put. We are likely in for a bit of bumpy ride there but as I sit here and type there is no wind yet. We only have 30 miles to go so with the wind at our back it won't be terrible that's me being optimistic :-)

We dropped our fishing rod in on route to Emerald Bay but no luck this time the fish just didn't like us much. We arrived at 1 just as the wind started to pick up the entrance to the marina is small I'm certainly glad Bryan was driving through that one! I think it best to start with the positives so lets ay the docks are amazing all concrete new floating docks so really easy to tie up to. Now for the negative this place is obviously a work in progress if you look at their website a person would think wow this place is amazing but instead i'm thinking wow this will be amazing some day!  They have internet which is slow that even with our wireless booster the signal is not usable unless you are at their office, so we are using / paying to hot spot off our phone which works amazing . No store of any kind, no restaurant, the gym is beyond small and old sigh. They do have a club house open until midnight and it has an older bar style pool table in it so that might be fun, the club house has a lovely wood bar but they don't stock it or have it open (someday?). There is a Sandals resort which they will shuttle you to but not now because it is over full and they will not allow the marina guests when they are full. There is another resort which you can easily walk to and you can use there pool and beach access for $35 a day each person, not a lot of chairs there but not sure how full they are. I will bite the $$ and go check it out tomorrow. They have a restaurant there so we are booked in for dinner at 7 tonight we don't have a lot on board and there are no provisioning stores with in 10 miles from here. Hoping it is good the menu looked good, we are for at least 2 nights hoping to leaving on Monday. If we rent a car it's $80 and to cab to a store $100 so we will make due. We walked to the liqueur store yes it was open and sold water so that's awesome. Looks like there used to be a super market there and bank but it was all closed / boarded up.

I'm off to do some laundry and workout in their shall we say quant gym :-) Laundry went well they had 4 big machines which worked well, the gym as I mentioned was super old but they had a nice TV so I watched a bit of tele while working out. Dinner was amazing nice to end the day on a positive the flavors were great, it will not be difficult to eat here again tomorrow night.

 Early night.
