Mexican Independence Day

San Blas, Nayarit, Mexico

Wasn't sure about the bus situation for today, because of the holiday. Tried again to work on blog, but, once again, slow or non-cooperative internet.

Then I heard this music outside, coming down the street by the hotel. Nothing new about that. People regularly drive around with loud music. It was quiet for a little bit, and then more music, but only brass and drums. Looked out my door and saw school kids marching by.

I grabbed my camera and started shooting.

The hotel manager showed me an upstairs balcony and I got some decent pics.

Every school in town participated. No floats or anything else though. But it looked like the kids enjoyed doing it; some being real serious and doing a good job.

Remember this is a small town: not much money for instruments and such. After the parade, the kids were off for the rest of the day.

All I did for food was pick up a sandwich and a drink at the OXXO on the next corner, both for lunch and dinner. Not being able to work on the internet, I found a station with English speaking movies (Spanish subtitles of course). Watched a couple of 'B' movies, then went to sleep.
