Around town

Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico
*** Sat. 9/19 Finally got a decent internet connection. So, once more, I'm going to attempt to get caught up on the blog! ***

Rent day.
Worked on the blog for about 1 1/2 hours. Then I went on my 1 1/2 hour walk to the ATM. Got my wad of dough for the week. Lollygagged about. Got back at noon to pay my rent.

When I first got here 'Misson Impossible' was on the sign; two days later it was gone. I would have seen it if it was in English.

Now I'm in my room, chillin' and working on the blog while trying to decide what to do about lunch. Planning on another heavy dinner, so I don't want to do too much for lunch.

Had a Hostess cupcake and some Coke for lunch. Then tried to read, but couldn't keep my eyes open. Slept in my chair for an hour.

Worked on the blog a couple more hours - finished another one.

Now it's off to dinner.

Well, that was a letdown. Been really looking forward to this one. Saving it as something special. So I walk into Ajijic Tango, no reservation (even though it's recommended). It's 4:30, on a Monday! Half the place is full. Got seated no problemo.

I was pretty hungry, having eaten little all day. So I figured I'd have an appetizer. I ordered a spinach, artichoke, cheese dip. I waited a long time (20 to 30 min.) The waiter put a basket with 6 to 8 mini rolls on the table along with butter, oil and herbs, and a salsa. These kept me busy, even though I was going slow, waiting for my app. When it came, well...I was expecting a sampler of three dips. What I got was a boat filled with this mixture, with tortilla chips on the side.  Two people could have shared this - as a main course. Cheese is very filling. I may have destroyed 1/4 of it; any more and I'd have been destroyed.

I ordered salmon with asparagus for the main course.

The salmon was okay, but not as good as the last one I had. The asparagus was so-so and way too salty. And the chardonnay was so-so.
If I were living in the area, I'd give them another try. They apparently have true prime beef: they have a filet and ribeye that are each $18 (and ones that are $9, which is the average for most meals in these places). I've also seen these higher prices in a few other restaurants that I've yet to frequent.

Went walking around town and on the boardwalk (malecón) [see add'l photos]

Most schools I've seen so far have two sessions.

Kids just walking around on their own. Nobody bothers them (and we think we're so much better than these other counties; the only thing better about the US is our income and the standard of living it provides us - at the cost of our morality and spirituality. I'll forgo the former to have the latter. It's one of the things I was hoping to find when I decided on this venture.)

Some of you worry about the crime rate in other parts of the world. Big cities are bad everywhere. But once you're away from the larger cities, the incidence of crime drops off dramatically (unless you're in a drug zone). Rape, child abuse, kidnappings, even burglaries, robberies and theft are almost nonexistent. Don't let the headlines scare you. If you want to travel, just keep away from the crime zones (some places are 100% safe during the day, but not at night).
