Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico
Last night.
Another one of those nights. The room right next to mine started out with the TV on; not loud, but loud enough that I could still hear it from the other side of the room. I can usually sleep through just about anything, but for some reason or other last night I couldn't fall asleep. And I couldn't keep my eyes open to read. I really needed some sleep.
I must have dozed off around 2am, because a little while after that it started raining hard enough to wake me. It must have awakened the person in the other room too because now the TV was silent. So it's 8am and I feel like I got some decent sleep.
Messed around on the computer for a little bit. Then about 10:30 I went to the plaza and met up with a guy, paid him $12 for an hour lesson on food that's served at these little street shops. Think I learned enough to be able to figure out what they're serving and how to order it. Not that I'll be proficient at it, but hopefully I can at least end up with something to eat.
Didn't feel like going to a restaurant for lunch, and really wanted to get back to work on the blog. So I picked up some junk food: cinnamon rolls, cookies, hostess cupcakes, milk, choc. milk and OJ. Lunch was chocolate milk and cinnamon buns.
The maid came in while I was working, so I took a break. The desk clerk had mentioned something about better views 'upstairs', so I finally decided to look around the place. There is a short walkway, from my hallway, that is over the first floor and overlooks it; on the left is an open space for inside rooms going down the other hall (and they have small balconies); on the right is a small enclosed dining area with kitchen facilities (for functions, maybe?) One room I looked into had full kitchen facilities and a fireplace!
Above the 3rd floor is a large multilevel patio area, part of it covered, with grills and partial kitchen facilities. This is where I took all the bird's eye view pics. In one corner are toilet and shower facilities, as well as workout room, hot tub, and sauna. None of these have been used in a while. You can probably tell by some of the pics that this place has seen better days. But with all the facilities I've seen, including a large function room with bandstand on the first floor (and there may be others hidden away), this place was quite something at one time. Maybe being shoulder to shoulder with the church and bell tower turned out not to be such a good thing.
The plaza is just behind this building.
These four photos show the town (on the left), and the more distant view with the mountains (on the right)
That completes the circle view of the city of Ajijic.
The infamous bell tower
Came back to my room, worked on the blog for a little while, then headed out to dinner.
Took this pic on the way to the restaurant
Two kinds of bread, with butter, crab spread, and ? (didn't try it).
Salad was green and red lettuces, jicama, watermelon, creamy vinaigrette.
The veal itself wasn't so great; it could have been a little more tender. Veal covered with mushrooms and demiglace: VERY tasty. Accompanied by broccoli, carrots and rice: fine dinner.
Nice view of the lake
From just outside the restaurant
These pics are taken from the main highway (where the restaurant is) - North to the mountains - South to the lake
I took that street down to the lake, walked west along the lakeshore, then north back towards my hotel.
This little guy was walking on the opposite sidewalk for about two blocks. Thought he was shadowing me. Caught him just as he was turning back (probably knew he'd been spotted).
