Woke up again at 1:00 pm. Decided I'd better get up for the day.
Showered, did some more laundry, then decided to take my first look at Chapala.
I thought it would be somewhat more upscale than Ajijic. The photos should be self explanatory.
Got back here around 3:30. I had water and chocolate chip cookies for brunch. So now I'm hungry for a meal. Looked for the place I wanted yesterday, and found it. When I'd walked by this place at other times, I thought it was a fairly high end hotel. It's a B&B at $70-90/night, right on the beach. I didn't take a good look around, but judge from the photos for yourself. It's a pretty decent place.
Ordered sea bass and a glass of wine. No wine list, maitre d' said it was a cabernet. Wine was delivered promptly, but, whereas all the other restaurants brought some kind of munchies, I got nothing. Sat around waiting for about twenty minutes for the entree when the waiter had said ten minutes (I had considered ordering an appetizer, because I was pretty hungry). Not even bread was brought. Took a couple of pics while waiting, then spotted the parrot.
And then this squadron (15-20) of birds came in for a landing within 10 ft of me. See the one on the back of the chair at the table next to me? Then they were all ambling towards me, except for the backup squad positioned on the lawn just waiting for the signal to move in. Parrot wasn't fazed one bit...must be used to these maneuvers.
Dinner was served with a couple pieces of french bread, toasted (slightly burned - but I lathered it with butter and ate it anyway).
Didn't know what to expect, as far as the sea bass; the waiter couldn't explain it to me, thought there was some kind of sauce. Turns out it was sauteed mushrooms (in some kind of lemon sauce) loaded on top of the sea bass. VERY tasty (probably the best mushrooms I've ever had)! The veggies were mostly carrots, with zucchini and cherry tomatoes (the small ones-about the size of a small marble). All in all, a very pleasant and tasty dinner. Well worth the price (same as other eateries) considering lakeside and the decor. Cost: $7.80 Wine: $3.50 The wine was from Baja Mx, but I can't remember the name (equal to at least a $10 bottle). The other three towns I've been to have had so-so wine; Ajijic so far has had good wine at the same prices.
Well I've done a little relaxing, reading, caught this blog up for the day, and now (8:40pm), I think I'll go for a stroll, pick up some ice and some pizza slices, then read and go to sleep. I know -- such a hard life! But I'm learning to make do. Ha,ha!
