A morning in Ixtapa

Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico

Best I could do for sunrise.

Got an early start. Only open shot I could get at sunrise; then the sun was blocked by buildings.

Got on the bus to Ixtapa to give it a real good once over. I was impressed. It's not very large or populated. But it is high end. I saw more, and bigger, boats in Ft Lauderdale, but I'll bet the average dollar value of the boats per person is higher here. There seem to be two golf courses, but one says 'golf school' and it may be only for that.

There is a shabby area that locals live in, but it's less than half the town. Most of the town has these nice boulevards, with a lot of gated housing. And then there's the beach area: half are all-inclusives, a quarter are condos, and a quarter regular hotels. There's even a small beach area for the public, but you have to know how to find it.

There's only a little bit of shopping (some upper end stuff), but Zihua is only about 15 min away and you can get pretty much anything you need there. Mexico City is the closest major city (about 6 hrs).

I spent only a little more than two hours to cover all this. So I got back to Z early enough to catch the bus to Acapulco.
