10:30 am was a good time to take the Undara Lava Tubes tour, not too hot. A Swiss girl was our guide, and she made the 190,000 year old volcanic lava tube formations come to life.

The photos do not do them justice, they are huge and the longest in the world . The amazing way they were formed, by multiple eruptions sending the lava down the river beds, the first lava flow cooled on the outside, while the inside was still hot another lava flow melted and pushed the soft core through, after multiple eruptions the tubes were formed.

The tour lasts around 2 hours, and you have a choice of the easy walk, mainly wooden boardwalk ways, or extreme tours where you climb over rocks and have rope hand rails. We did the easy one, and in no way felt we had compromised the lava tube viewing, as you still go deep into the tubes.

The rest of the day we enjoyed the park, after supper the boys watched the Wallabies win the test against South Africa while Marg and Sue socialized on the deck of the Restaurant with another camper and a few wines.

The Restaurant/bar area tastefully comprises of railway carriages linked together with wooden decking. This is a very well run Eco lodge and it makes a visit to the Undarra lava tubes complete.
