Karumba - Another easy day on the gulf, a visit to the Barramundi Discovery Centre with Mick, Lyn and Larry, this is the only hatchery in the world that breeds the southern gulf strain of Barramundi (which is a type of perch, and means large scales in aboriginal) . A very interesting tour, which they run at 10, 11, 2, 3 and 4 every day in the winter season, $11 was the seniors price.

We learnt that all Barramundi are born male, at around 5 to 7 years old some of them turn into females, if the conditions are right.

The tour was followed by the opportunity to hand feed the big ones, up to 25 kg, these toothless fish certainly do a good job of vacuuming the fish out of your fingers, in such a way, you believe your fingers are gone too, but not so, I am glad to say.

They gave us a self serve coffee and biscuits and have a very good souvenir shop selling "leather goods" made from all kinds of unusual hides, like croc, emu, roo, snake and of course Barramundi.

We decided to head to the baker in town for lunch, and we all agreed they made some of the best pies you will get anywhere.

Back at camp, we relaxed until the Northern Territory Variety Bash vehicles started arriving. They were collecting money for the children's charity that they support, and some of the crews used a lot of imagination when dressing up the vehicles and themselves.

Mick had a scored a paying gig at the sunset tavern, where they put on a variety bash BBQ and party, so we joined him up at the tavern to provide moral support, and be the rent a crowd.
Mick and Larry managed to score us free BBQ tickets, and we all had a good time, yet again.
