The Lonely Planet China has ~1040 pages and weights over 800g. It's a monster! And I don't even need all of it. So I decided to dismantle it. It is a rather easy process.

You need: the book, a hair-drier, a small scissor and a pair of cloves to protect your hands from the heat .
First: remove the softcover from the pages by heating up the side of the book.
Then: remove each section one by one by melting the clue and cutting the strings.

DONE! My revamped China guide is now only 400g and 100% useful :) On the plus side, on a day to day basis, I will be able to take along with me only the few relevant pages and not the all book. They should think of a way to make pull-out chapter as they do pull-out maps.

Matériel: le livre, un sèche-cheveux, un petit ciseau et des gants pour vous protéger de la chaleur.
Etape 1: séparer la couverture des pages en chauffant la tranche et tirant gentiment.
Etape 2: enlever les parties une à une en fondant la colle et coupant les fils

Et voilà! Ma version du guide ne pèse plus que 400g et me sera à 100% utile! En plus, une fois sur place je pourrai me balader avec juste le petit bout nécessaire chaque jour. Je pense qu'il devrait faire des guides 'démontables', ça serait vraiment pratique.
