Mount Isa, Queensland, Australia
The road to Mt Isa is wonderfully scenic, historic and interesting. We are back in the land of stony hills, mountains and gorges. Just out of Cloncurry beside a river (dry) is an 1861 campsite of the Burke & Wills Expedition.

About halfway along is the ex-mining town of Mary Kathleen . We thought this would be a photo opportunity but all the buildings have been entirely removed leaving only streets, concrete slabs and garden remnants. The place is now used by the caravan community for a very comfortable campsite. Our guess is that there were possibly 150 buildings at it's peak. We will return to explore the old mine site which has now formed a crater lake some 7klm from the camp.

We moved onto Mt Isa, but not to stay. We did a shop there, filled a gas bottle, filled the fridge and off to Dajarra, 160klm south!
