Birdsville, Queensland, Australia
30th August - 1st Sept

"We're on the road to nowhere", not really! Very surprised to find that of the 190klm to Birdsville, only about 50klm was still gravel, the rest is a wide blacktop! We were in no hurry and stopped a couple of times for photos, comfort stops and because we could .

Birdsville....want to know more Google it! Birdsville sits astride a low mound but the water tanks and comms tower are visible for many miles! There are so many attractions that we only just managed to see them all on the drive into town from the north!

We are here early to meet Cousins, Gary and Del, and to get a powered site as the temperatures are beginning to hit the mid-30's. also we are here for 10 days so power and water are a plus. The park's amenities are pretty good with the exception of the grassy areas...there are none!

We are here for the Birdsville Races on 6-7th September, and the crowds have begun to arrive, but more on that later. For now the big draw card is the iconic Birdsville Pub, and even though we have been here before, Evi had never ventured inside (shy & innocent she is). Since we have been here we have both enjoyed several cool drinks, and on Fathers Day a surprise dinner complements of young Tom.

We are getting up at first light each morning and going for a long walk, though Roscoe complains all the way he does enjoy it in the end. A highlight of the first mornings walk was breakfast at the Bakery...Roscoe indulged, over-indulged, on Lambs-fry & Bacon...2 eggs!
