Right on the Schlei

Schleswig, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany
After a difficult day yesterday, but one we would not have missed, we left Adendorf, heading north to a town my son had highly recommended.  ( thank-you Martin!)

We by passed Hamburg and Lubeck ( see previous 2013 blog) and Kiel, passing over the Elbe and the Kiel Canal.
As we drove along we were intrigued to see  several old 'box-shaped ' motorhomes and even an old caravan or two, parked in by- roads off the main road.   As we passed one, I said to Rob ' there's another of those tatty old motorhomes' and he said ' yes and the driver is sitting there, in her bra!'  Clang! - the penny dropped - these old MH's were mobile brothels!!   We looked carefully at the next ones we passed and some of them had a red heart motif on the door, and one had 'sexy girls' written too!  Most of these were in areas where there were Army camps.
We were surprised the German Police seemed to ignore them.

We were heading for Schleswig ,on the Schlei fjiord.     I was a bit worried about finding the Aire as our guide is in German, but it proved quite easy and the yacht harbour was right in front of the large Cathedral with imposing tower- a good landmark!

The Aire was like several we had been on at Marinas. It had 30+ well marked out pitches, most on gravel. Ours was right on the seafront. A path went by and lots of people stopped and pointed at our numberplate - they obviously don't get many British.
The facilities were superb - opened by a special key fob ( dep. 20e)   There were lots of individual cabines with shower, loo and basin and plenty of unlimited hot water.   The key fob also accessed the pump out and fresh water.  Wifi was free but not very strong where we were. All this for 16e and a free canvas bag as well!   Not surprisingly the Aire was almost full, with lots of Swedes and Norwegians going the other way to us!

Schleswig has a pop of 25,000 and still feels like a fishing village, and more Danish than German, which it was for a very long time.
We went for a quick walk, but the Cathedral was just about to close -5pm- so we left that until tomorrow.
