Dramatic fjord scenery.

Bergen, Western Fjords, Norway
We left the ferry terminal fairly early - especially as we weren't actually catching a ferry!! We then drove the rest of the way along the very narrow road along the Hardanger fjord. In two places there were extensive road works where they were building tunnels to improve the traffic flow. In summer it must be horribly busy.   The weather was overcast at first with the sun gradually breaking through, which led to some dramatic cloud formations and shadows. The scenery was amazing. We then left the R7 and joined the E16 through lots of tunnels towards Bergen.   We stopped on the way to Voss to look at the Steindfossen waterfall. You can climb up and walk behind it - great!

To get to our destination we went into Bergen on the 580 to Nesttun and then the 582 towards the city.   After passing a large bus depot on the left, we took the next proper left turn down a steep hill, through lots of housing and road humps, until the traffic lights and tram lines at the bottom , when we turned left up the hill, past the shopping centre, then left again into BergensHallen - the only motorhome parking in the city.   There are about 24 marked bays, with large marked gaps in between.   Only the bays on the left have EHU points.

You can pay by the hour, if only sightseeing -20NOK per hr  OR it is 150NOK for 24hrs. with FREE electricity, water and drainage.    The best time to arrive is in the morning and on the 2 nights we were there it was full by mid afternoon.   It does say at the entrance that it is exclusively for MH's but it doesn't stop others from trying - fine 500 NOK.   I told an Austrian couple in an estate car with a roofbox that it was not for cars, and they said they were 'too high' for the carparks.!! It is not funny when you have driven 250kms and find a car in the only MH space left!!   They did actually move.   Just down the road from the site there is a supermarket and a stop on the Bergen light Railway/ tram which takes you into the city centre in 30mins,     It started to rain heavily as we approached Bergen and never stopped for the rest of the day.   It rains for 260 days a year and in the last day or so had had 40 mms of rain.

There is a standing joke in Bergen that a visitor asked a young lad if it ever stopped raining there, and he replied -' don't ask me, I'm only 13 years old!!'
