Storen, Central Norway, Norway
After a decent night's sleep we were on the road by 9.30am, on the 29, then the 30, to Roros.
We stopped for coffee and heard loud bird calls. In the distance we could see some big birds circling. We thought it was too far north for storks, and then realised they must be cranes. After flying overhead the group split into two and went in opposite directions.  When we checked later we found that cranes breed in central Scandinavia, away from the coast.

We stopped at the Firestation for a pump out etc and found the free parking area for MH's ( no overnighting allowed).   Unfortunately it was still raining.    Roros has many lovely old wooden houses.   The Smelting works there burnt down in 1975 and the mining company shut down in 1977. Every thing was just left as it was. The slag heaps weren't bulldozed or redeveloped and because the town is so remote and in such a bleak, windswept setting it relly feels like stepping back in time.   Spring doesn't start until June 1st, and summer is July and August.
There is a very large imposing church, built as a symbol of power by the mining company, but in winter it is only open from 11am to 1pm on Saturdays, so we couldn't go in!!
The gutters and downpipes are all made of copper. How long would they last intact in England?!!
The town has some old mineworkers cottages, built of wood, with ,turf roofs, which get larger and smarter the further they are away from the slag heaps .
Roros is a really interesting place, even though it never stopped raining the whole time we were there!
Apparently in the summer it is very busy with coachloads of tourists. Appart from locals we were about the only ones looking around.
After lunch we drove on towards Trondheim on the 30, later joining the main E6 again, following a wide river almost all the way . We stopped for coffee at some waterfalls and took advantage of a 'photo opportunity'!
We stopped for the night at a disused garage and cafe, with large carpark.   We were later joined by about 6 huge trucks!
