Fram, Kon Tiki and wet and cold.

Oslo, Oslo, Norway
Well. the forecast may have been for a bright sunny day, but when we woke up it was dull, drizzly and dismal.
We used our Senior day cards (450 NOK and no proof of age requested. Retirement age in Norway is 67, so no discounts til then)  and caught the bus right outside the campsite for the half hour ride into Oslo city centre. The bus stops right outside the Town Hall - a monstrous brick edifice.      Across the road is the Nobel Peace Centre. The Peace Prize is presented in the Town Hall each December.
Across the road is the ferry terminal. We could have used our passes and caught the bus to the Museum peninsula, but thought it would be more interesting to go by ferry.  By this time it was pouring with rain and we had to queue for 15mins.   The ferry was quite small and was absolutely packed - standing room only.
The main attraction for us was the Fram, the boat that Amudsen took on his expeditions to the North and South poles.   You can explore all over the boat, and the displays are fantastic, with everything in English, as the most used language , as well as Norwegian.   We spent hours there and both agreed it was the best museum we have ever visited, and it has won loads of awards.   We visited the Polar Expedition Museum ( or title like that) in Cambridge, which has a lot of Scott's stuff, but it bears no comparison to this one.,
After we dragged ourselves away from the Fram, we went to a separate museum to see a ship I read about as a teenager - the Kon-Tiki.   I must re-read the book.
This exhibition also has the Ra 2 - from Thor Heyerdal's next voyage.      I took loads of photo's so let me bore you with them!!!!
By the time we caught the ferry back to the bus stop, we were both leaking wet and freezing cold, and really couldn't face any more sightseeing, so we caught the bus back, for a warm-up and ..........'a nice cup of tea!!'
