Wine Tour

Mendoza, Argentina
We had a shitty night sleep,we havent been right since the 16 hour flight from Sydney we keep waking up at random hours but it didn't help that the bed in the hotel was tiny, pillows rock hard and it was hot too. We headed down to see what was for our free breakky and it was all pastries, croissants, toast and cereal – the food here is doing nothing for the diet !!

We had to change to the hotel across the road today as the one we were in was full – it was a slightly better room, still with rock hard pillows but at least it had proper air con this time .

We booked our half day wine tour for that afternoon, we were to visit two wineries and also an olive oil making factory all with tastings. We headed to the first winery which had old traditional styles of wine making where they age the wine in HUGE 37,000 litre oak casks, we got to taste a few of their wines and also a champage, we ended up buying a bottle of it as it was only £4.50 – poor backpackers drinking champagne haha but it was so cheap we couldn’t resist.

We then went to the olive oil making place and got to taste the diff flavours of this too with bread it was yummy. They also make toiletaries like soap and moisuriers that are made from the oil – aparently its really good for you.

Last stop was another winery this time less traditional they make the wine in large cement containers then age them in small oak barrels containing only 250litres, most of the wine they isn’t aged in the oak as its exported worldwide where as the other place was all oak and only drank locally. Some more tasting of it all and then we headed back to the hotel. It was a great afternoon out but I am still clueless as to how a wine tastes like oak or peach or whatever else tastes wine expertes can taste – to me its either good or bad haha.

Dinner time again and it was steak again haha tonight though it was utterly huge!!
