Well what can I say...Argentina has utterly skinned us and totally killed our budget and that would be an understatement, it has been way more than we expected and the cost of bus travel has been HUGE it has also done nothing for our figures we have ate way too much food.
However it has been utterly amazing we loved it here the scenery, food and people have all been amazing, from partying with Paul Oakenfold... twice to walking on glaciers and sitting with penguins and partying in Buenos Aires its just been incredible.
The Food
Well its all we have done here, for breakfast everyday all they eat is bread bread and more bread with all sorts of jams, bread for breakfast bread with dinner, salami and cheese baguettes on every bus journey I think if I look at another baguette I might turn into one. The also have this stuff called Dulche de Leche which is pretty much like some sort of creme caramel, its so sweet and they have it with everything so fattening.
Of course there is the meat..I think there is more of this than bread its everywhere huge massive chunks of steak or lambs strung up on the fire things in the window of restaurants you just cant get away from it and without a doubt we have had our best steaks ever here they are just amazing. They also have these sausages called Choripan which is like a chorizo style sausage which are cheap in a roll only £1.50 so these have been snacked on many a time. I am going to miss the steaks for sure.
The Scenery
Argentina has it all mountains, lakes, glaciers, desert and the country is HUGE - after travelling for 20 hours on buses and the scenery never changes and not a house in sight do you really get an understanding of how massive it is. I think around 40m people live in Argentina but most of those are in Buenos Aires and Cordoba there are vast areas of the country that just seem unpopulated.
The Buses
Argentina also has a reputation for having some of the best buses and they are right, compared to the night buses we have been on during the rest of our travels these have won hands down. You get 3 classes of seats, semi cama 140 degrees recline, cama 160 and cama suit at 180 a full bed. On the long journeys you get food served and on some with wine with dinner and even champagne or whisky - most also have a game of bingo !! The best company we went with was Via Bariloche and Andesmar, the bus up from Ushiaia called Marga were horrid.
So on the note of buses its only when we were leaving Argentina did we find out about a bus pass you can use - it could have saved us around £400 in travel - absolutely gutted but we make sure we pass on the info to others - so here is the link for the bus pass and it can be bought once your in Argentina.

Costs
It seems the economy here has gone crazy inflation is through the roof and prices of things have gone up considerably we were unable to stay in private rooms as this was gonna be around £35 a night which is crazy so it was dorms all the way for us and it sucked god knows how people cope with that for a year or more I HATE being woken by inconsiderate room mates and sleeping in bunk beds !!
Alcohol
On another note however alcohol and fags are super cheap - at Creamfields festival the champagne was cheaper than the beer which is just crazy and the prices you can get stuff in the supermarket is just ridiculous - see costs below.
So next stop Bolivia hopefully shed some weight and save some cash as its much cheaper there - Argentina has been amazing cannot wait to explore the rest of South America.
Here are the cost of some things to give you an idea
Cost of double room £35
Cost of a dorm bed on average - £10 per night including bread and jam breakky
Cost of the average bus journey £80-£100 each (see my note below)
Cost of a flight from BA to Ushuia - £150 each
A salami and cheese baguette from shop - £2.20
Cheap bottle of red from supermarket - £2
Cheap bottle of champagne - £3.50
Litre bottle of cheap whisky/vodka in supermarket - £3
2 litre bottle of coke in supermarket - £2.30
A litre bottle of beer in a bar - £3.75
Steak dinner for two with a cheap bottle of red in a restaurant - £35 for two
Cost to go to penguin island in Ushuia - £120 for two
Wine tour in Mendoza - £12 each
Mini trek for 1.5 hours on the glacier - £100 each
Daily Budget
So I tried to do this for all our countries to help fellow travellers but I got lazy I will go back and fill in this stuff eventually.
We stayed in Argentina for 32 days and with all our tours and a flight to Ushuia our daily budget was £95 for the two of us - total spent just over £3000
