Escape from Antofagasta

Copiapó, Atacama, Chile
Following a very frustrating morning we finally are back on the road.
Tom was back at BMW 9am hopeful that a reset would do the trick with the bike fortunately it did.
As helpful as all the guys have been, Motorad appear to have a long way to go before German efficiency is realised here in Chile.

Tom, last walk to the dealers arrived at 9 to find Dennis and Nelson at the bike, after a reset of the electronics the bike was running better. I had googled what to do with the air filter and in the end used gear oil to charge the filter then replaced it.
Finally the bike was ready and after some delays in sorting the bill finally rode back to the hotel to start loading the bike.

Headed out of Antofagasta and back onto the Panamerican towards Copiapo. Pulled into a gas station to be told no gas next gas 160klms. Decided I could make it and headed into the desert, after 15 miles into strong headwind and rapidly falling fuel gauge I decided we might not so headed back ( what a jerk), fortunately didn't have to go all the way in Antofagasta. Must get a spare gas bottle for these long stretches.
Back on the Panamerican stopped at the Hand of the Desert for the customary adventure motorcyclist photo.

The road to Copiapo is long and apart from a section in the desert mountains where the colours where incredible and the last bit along the coast the journey was unremarkable. Apart from that we are back in the saddle after 8 day break the longest in 6 months. It is wonderful just to be moving.

Copiapo is not like I remember it in 2009 it's much more developed,we stay in a small hotel and wander to the square for a Bavarian dinner of pork and mash.
