Moina, Tasmania, Australia
What a start to the day, opened the blinds and there was a little wallaby having his breakfast!
He was so sweet, even coming round to our balcony so we could get some photos!
Today we were off th the Cradle Mountain National Park and its such a lovely day too .
At the visitors centre we were told that Tazzie has around thirty five clear days each year, and this was one of them!!!
We took the shuttle bus down into the park and were soon preparing to start our walk.
The first think you notice is just how blue the water of Dove Lake is. We followed the path around the lake making occasional stops for photos, drinks and Tim Tam snacks!
Sometimes the route was easy; flat board walk, sometimes more rough going and undulating.
The walk around the lake was about 7k and we were pleased that we completed it in the three hour expected time.
After lunch we decided to try out another section of park, so back on the bus the next walking stage. Ronny Creek is another pretty place. It was from here that we were to able to complete the walk to Waldhalm the home of Gustav and Kate Weildorf, who not only used the house as abase for early Twentieth Century tourism and acted as guides to the area but also were instrumental in getting Cradle Mountain as a National Park.
It was a great walk across meadows on boardwalks. While we were crossing we spotted a wombat happily chomping on the plants next to our path. What a sweet little thing, all fluffy taking not the slightest notice of us.
The house was really interesting, made of wood and stil in quite remarkable condition: several rooms were set up with information about the couple and their work, there was some evidence of the use of the rooms and there was even a bath house that operated on old water!!
From here we took the path back to Ronñy Creek and began the walk up Snake hill.Again the path was marked with boardwalk and again we found a wombat happily feasting on the plants.
A really lovely days walking, roughly 10 k, amazing weather and lovely animals to see. Fantastic!
