It's our Wedding Day - Happy Anniversary

Castle Lichtenstein Castle Lichtenstein – July 25, 2006

It is our wedding day … and we thought the best place to celebrate this anniversary is where we actually married – because how often will we be here to do this.
So we started out with visiting Castle Lichtenstein, this time we even went inside the castle to explore this part and during exploring the courtyards, we had a sneak peek inside the little chapel where the wedding took place. We strolled around the whole castle – remembering the day 3 years ago and found even more little cool spots.

From here we walked over to the old Lichtenstein Castle Ruins…

Castle Lichtenstein The knights of Lichtenstein
In 1150 they built a 2nd castle of Lichtenstein, known as the old Lichtenstein. They were the knights until the 17th century, the Last Knight of Lichtenstein died in a battle in 1687 against the Turks. The Reutlinger didn't liked the Lichtensteiner and in a revenge in 1311: the Reichskrieg war, it got rebuilt in 1315 and again destroyed in 1377 during the city war from the Reichstadt Reutlingen– it never got rebuilt. In 1802 a small Forest/Hunting castle was built 15 Min away.

What’s to know about Castle Lichtenstein?
In 1100 they built the 1st Castle Lichtenstein on the today’s castle spot – it was not an important castle during the 17th century, in 1614 it was used for the forest worker. And in 1802 the king of Wuerttemberg removed most of the already deteriorated castle.

The writer Wilhelm Hauff wrote a novella in 1826 called "Lichtenstein": His inventedan imaginary figure to witness the events during Ulrich von Wuerttemberg. As in the book he was a wronged man in real life he brought high taxes on the people leading to an uprising in 1614. In his book he describing the castle overlooking the valley from the rocks.

Duke Wilhelm von Urach, Graf von Wuerttemberg got this little forest castle from the king Wilhelm of Wuerttemberg and then they built the castle in 1842: a German castle for knights in the style of the Middle Age. Duke Wilhelm died in 1869 here – he was the 1st Duke of Urach.

And today: the castle is still owned by the Dukes (Herzog) of Urach.

Honau - Forellenhof Our Anniversary Wedding Supper
And then for a nice wedding supper we drove down in the Valley below the castle: Honay and had a wonderful trout supper with castle view.

Echazquelle Echazquelle
Close to Honau is the start of the little river Echaz, so went to check it out – with 688 liter per sec… all what we saw was a little river starting in the middle of the no-where … but it is a cute little spot in the forest.
