No parking in Narvik

Vestpollen, Nordland, Norway
We woke up early to a beautiful sunny morning, and set off towards Narvik. My dad had been there several times and was in the North Atlantic and Arctic convoys during the War.
He went to the Christmas Island H-bomb tests from 1957 -9 on the HMS Narvik, and Ros ,Mum and I went on board when she arrived back in Chatham. Somewhere at home I have a plaque of the ship's crest - I must look for it. Narvik has a very good museum about the battle of Narvik and the Norwegian resistance, that we wanted to see.
Narvik is a 'gritty, industrial town, dominated by the iron ore works and docks. There is only one campsite to the north of the city, just off the E6.  As we had been wild camping for 8 of the last 10 days we had promised ourselves a couple of days of R&R, with electricity and washing machines! We looked and searched for this campsite but could not find it. The Tourist office eventually confirmed what we thought - it had closed down - even though it was in the 2015 guides they were handing out!
We wnt back through the town to find the parking the TO told us about. We found a sign for Tourist parking with a picture of a MH and caravan. What we found was a very small parking space full of cars and scooters from the school opposite. We only just managed to turn around - heaven help anyone towing a caravan!!
We reluctantly gave up on Narvik and carried on to our next goal - The Lofoten Islands.

Narvik is set in a wonderful position on the fjord with snowy mountains all around. We really enjoyed the drive around and across the fjord. Unfortunately we soon lost the glorious weather and it got cloudier and darker until it finally rained.
We carried on and on and eventually found a good overnight spot between a fjord and a lake, along with several other MH's from France, Germany, Finland, Holland and of course some Norwegians.   The rain also carried on - all night.  There was a boardwalk by the site, obviously leading to a view, but you couldn't see anything!

We are enjoying your photos and hope you get to the Lofoten Islands one our favourite places when we did our Norwegian cruise in 1996.
