Today we went further afield. Drove to the beautiful Langdale valley and had a walk then lunch in the garden of the pub at Sticklebarn. The pub is conveniently owned by the National Trust and adjacent to the walkers' car park.

Drove up Wrynose Pass and then up Hardknott Pass to stop and explore Hardknott Roman Fort . Similar layout to Housesteads Fort but smaller. Brisk breeze on the exposed hill side- those Romans must have been tough, up there in winter!

Then drove on to Dalegarth for Boot station in Eskdale to board the Eskdale-Ravenglass miniature steam railway, travelled 12 km to the coast. Sat on the edge of the beach having an "Icecream by the Seaside" before travelling back by train. Beautiful lake scenery, surrounded by mountains, cool but not rainy, and so photogenic when sun casts shadows on the hills. Highest peak less than 1000 metres (Scafell) but nonetheless all the peaks are impressive.

Pub dinner at the Royal Oak at Braithwaite.
