Hogwart's Castle and all.

Longhoughton, Eastern Valleys, United Kingdom
Today we went to Alnwick Castle (pronounced"Anec"), scene of Hogwarts in the Harry Potter movies. A fact not mentioned much by our guide who gave the impressive history from outside in the on/off pouring rain. Could not help, however, seeing ourselves watching the "flying broomsticks lesson" and playing quidditch.

Inside was Renaissance opulence in extreme, almost overpowering at times .The castle was so impressive, have to visit again later in the year.

Met Theresa and David for lunch at Barter Books, largest second hand bookshop in UK, and , of course, John had to buy books!

Then went to Northumbria National Park, although weather very threatening. Had a strenuous 5 mile walk uphill, out of the Breamish Valley, past several hill forts and prehistoric burial mounds. Charted new territory enroute as we lost the path. Managed to get back to cars without getting soaked. A local farmer asked "Was it such a good idea to go walking?" Answer- "Yes" as we had great exercise and were still warm and dry!! He also said "Don't bother with weather forecast, wait until end of day and say that's what is was - 100% accurate".

People here are so friendly, stop to chat at every opportunity. One lady pulled up in her car, rather than splash us, and said "Wet enough without me splashing you too".
On the way home, took the "scenic route" and came to a ford, running high over the road. John's comment - "Hire cars can go anywhere!" Fortunately, sense prevailed and we turned around and went back a safer way, over a bridge!
