Ferries and tunnels

Skudeneshavn, Western Fjords, Norway
Norway is obviously a country of superlatives!!!

We did get on the ferry at 7 a .m. and cruised slowly down Lysefjord in the rain, but we could see Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen) a rock platform 640 metres above the fjord with no guard rails.
So peaceful going down the fjord. Because the ferry was pre-booked, we had to get unloaded at Forsand, and drove to Oanes to catch another ferry to Lauvik. Then we drove past Stavanger and took another ferry from Nordre Rennesoy to Arsvagen.

Yesterday we had a tunnel with U bend at the bottom. Today we drove dozens of tunnels but in one 12 km tunnel under the fiord and then under an island, we came to a roundabout in the tunnel and drove another 12km!! Unbelievable ! They are master tunnel builders.

Went to Alvardsnes, Norway's oldest royal seat and looked at the Norwegian history museum then the reconstructed Viking farm nearby. St Olaves church is simple, but lovely to hear the local organist "practising" while we visited. Ancient burial mound outside, of a rich but un-named "king". The Virgin Mary's needle is an obelisk in the churchyard, leaning and almost touching the wall. When it does, Domesday!
(Unbelieving priests have climbed it to chip off the tip to postpone Domesday.)

Then travelled south on Karmoy, south of Haugesund, to look at old township of Skudeneshavn and camped nearby.
