Longest road tunnel in the world.

Honefoss, Eastern Valleys, Norway
Woke to the roar of the unbelievable waterfall. Such a great camp spot. Also 8 degrees and probably not going to get any warmer as we go north.

Drove along numerous fjords with beautiful reflections, beside river cascades, more magnificent waterfalls, numerous tunnels, rough glacial mountain scenery until the longest road tunnel in world!!!! We drove through the Laerdals tunnel that is 24 .5 km long. At 6 km intervals, there are widened areas, lit by eerie blue lights, with rubbish bins!! John decided to stop for a photo at the second one, although I persuaded him we did not need a picnic there!!!

Soon after, the 12th century Borgund Stave Church, the least altered / refurbished of the 28 remaining stave churches in Norway, which are "Norway's contribution to world heritage". They are totally constructed of wood, by starting with vertical staves at the corners, supporting the roof and then vertical wooden walls and wooden shingled rooves. The totally wooden buildings do not rot, being built on a stone base. Excellent museum on site and great on-site guide to the construction process.

Chatted to UK couple with Motorhome. and compared notes, mainly on how to find free/cheap camping spots, that apparently Norway is trying to phase out.

Saw another stave church on route, smaller and all locked up.

Then we climbed to 1000 metres and across a rugged plateau of frozen lakes, rivers and leafless silver birch trees (trees next to us last night fully covered in leaves). Again..... spectacularly beautiful.

Travelling towards Oslo, the country became more gentle - enormous lush fields of crops. Very slow progress due to multiple road works, so stopped after 400km at a beautiful camp site on the edge of a fjord, run by a lady who had lived in Newcastle from 6 to 16!

Chores tomorrow - washing and defrosting the fridge. Then Oslo.
