Super WOW day - Nordkapp and the Midnight Sun!

Nordkapp, North Norway, Norway
Pulled out of camp in beautiful sunshine and warm air. Shirtsleeves! Drove along fjords and through numerous tunnels, including one 6.9 kilometres long and 212 metres below the sea. Took Route 69 via Honningsvag. This route is the most northerly road in the world with connections to the international network.

We had been told a sea mist was expected to block out the view at Nordkapp at 4 pm so we hurried along . Reached the end of Europe at Nordkapp in brilliant sun, full view of the sea. We made it!!

We walked around the breezy headland and took all the obligatory photos with appropriate markers to say "We made it to the tip of Europe". Large car park really, rather than a campsite, very expensive one too, with hundreds of Motorhomes and cars parked. Then the sea mist did roll in and slowly blocked the view of the sea 300 metes below us - really eerie scenery then.
Lunch, a snooze, souvenir shopping.

Decided to celebrate with dinner out, as Robyn had been told of a place where they served King Crab. Went to small village to a souvenir shop with small restaurant, serving fresh King crab, caught by cook's husband. Served simply with bread, butter, lemon and mayo. Delicious. Followed by waffles with jam and cream.

Back at camp, we watched a video of life up here in winter - very bleak, cold and windswept.
At 10.30pm, an amazing scene. About 1000 people in winter gear arrived in a fleet of tour buses to witness the Mightnight Sun. Temperature 8 degrees with an icy wind but full sunshine. We joined the throng , took photos of the sun at midnight, and drank red wine to toast our success/ achievement/ endurance!! The crowds dispersed to their buses (probably back to their cruise ship) and we went to bed.
