Long winding road to Kamloops

Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada
Up early couldn't see as somehow last night when Iogged off the blog I lost half of yesterdays entry so had to re-enter today. I let Richard sleep in while I did the blog.

We are now getting experts at packing up and checking rooms before we leave each town. Whistler is a place where it always seems to be raining every morning but once you get to the outskirts the drizzle stops and the sun tries to come out through the clouds.

Today was a long day of winding roads through valleys up and down mountains with picture perfect scenes at every corner over 350kms to Sun Peaks.   We stopped at a few spots to see the scenery first being Nairn Falls on the emerald green Green River of Hwy 99 on the way to Pemberton. You have to be very careful following the trail as Richard nearly went white water rafting at a narrow section at Mt Currie where there is steep banks and drops off of up to 60m above the swift flowing river.    The 1.5km walk to Nairn Falls was worth it the force of the water over the rocks causing the whirlpool of water was magnificent to watch. It was very cold near the water and it starting to drizzle.    The story of the falls is interesting built up from volcanoes thousands of years ago. Terry and Diana would love this area around Whistler for hiking and camping there are so many trails to follow you would be here for weeks.

Morning tea At Pemberton found a McDonalds for a coffee and rest for Richard from all the driving you have to concentrate all the time with the hairpin turns Drove on a little further to Joffre Lake
another picture perfect photo lake is down a trail only 500m from road so thank god for short distance to walk. Experience hikers go up to the glacier that you can see in the distance. Another short stop up Hwy 99 is Duffey Lake where you can launch your boat. This is where we caught up with the manic who overturn cars on a double yellow line must have been in a big hurry to launch his boat.

Stopped at Seton Lake to have lunch didn't take a photo as there are just too many picture perfect scenes. The lake is huge and when you look over the edge you can see the wharf where the boats are launched and there is a railway line that snakes around the lake. Once you pass Lillooet (looks like a mining town) the landscape changes dramatically looks like a fire has gone through the mountainside as the scenery is very sparse and bare. I think from Carquile it is Reserve Land (Canadian Indian land) and it is bare in the valleys looks like farming for feed (hay). The irrigation is good as there is a river and lakes to draw water. Another pit stop for Richard to have a break from driving (he doesn't trust me to drive I have to wait till the Prairies) in a small one horse town. Had a coke for the caffeine rush. Across the road you can get a king size bed at the motel for $40 a night what a blast.

The Canadians drive like maniacs we had two big pickup utes constantly following us and every time they overtook us we seemed to catch up with them in another town on the way. The scenery is starting to change back to the fir tree forests as we get closer to Kamloops and the highway now has less winding turns more of straight roads where the speed is 110kms.

It is late afternoon 4pm when we arrive in Kamloops Jill is doing her job really good as Kamloops is a large town with lots of highways. Stopped at the shopping centre bought a vacuum flask at the Re-procession Store and stocked up on some food. Petrol is cheaper here $126.9 so will fill up at Sun Peaks as the tank is down to half full. It is another 58kms of winding roads to Sun Peaks.

Finally arrived at 5.30pm and with luck we pulled up right outside of Fireside Lodge only to find we had to drive round the corner to Bear Country Management to book in. Jody was very nice gave me all the info and code access to underground parking and code to door of unit. We are on the fourth floor corner unit with view from front of resort.

Relaxing night tonight after a long drive. Started looking for units/cabins in Jasper and it is proving to be a problem prices are high for the summer period but that is life if you want a kitchen, WIFI and parking.

PS amazingly we were very nice to eachother today calm, cool and collective.
