Rivière Noire, Rivière Noire, Mauritius
Plenty of rain first thing and overnight but cleared a little for essential supplies to be purchased from the minimart at the bottom of the road. Also, with the same idea ,were Anjali and her husband Gaetan who have recently relocated ,upon retirement, back to Mauritius from Australia. Anjali and Miranda were school chums in London and flat mates before they both moved abroad.
So an impromptu lunch trip to a local pizzeria . All seems calm weather wise but Kamil's flight to South Africa has been cancelled and so was the overnight flight from Paris. Heavy seas are reported on the other side of the island but so far we are unaffected and the sun made an appearance. So much so we nipped down to La Preneuse beach for a short stroll. Last year there was another spit here with its cannon, which now due to a storm last winter ,sits alone in the sea. This time last year Miranda watched her granddaughters do a sega dance show but now it would have to be a synchronised swimming demonstration.
As we walked along the shore we noticed that all the boats had been dragged ashore and tied to the palm trees. A piece of washed up coral caught our eye as did a tree struggling to survive and a pretty silvery fan leafed palm in a beach side garden.
The latest news has the cyclone weakening slightly but it could still strengthen overnight and head towards us but thankfully it isn't likely to be on the west where we are.

i am amazed at the change to the beach at the cannon. Has Seb been too enthusiastic with his bucket and spade?
