Ancient Olympia- our last day in Greece.

Patras, Peloponnese, Greece
Poured rain in the night, and still raining. We donned waterproof coats, trousers and our as yet unused heavy duty rubber boots and set off down to town. The site of Ancient Olympia, birthplace of the Games, is at the end of the town. Very crowded and rain on and off, but a very inspiring site with good info posters to tell us all. The flame for each new Olympics is kindled by a sun parabola in the Temple of Hera.

Before seeing the museum, we chanced upon the Olympic Botanic Garden . A restful spot, herbs and all sorts of mostly medicinal trees, all labelled in numerous languages, a really lovely and informative find.

Then the museum, probably the best museum we have been to in all of Greece, a great way to end our education of Greece, myths, gods, and "Ruins"!!

Did not leave the camp until 3, as we only had 120km of good road to drive the Patras to catch the ferry to Venice. We got our tickets, then ate dinner in the car park . The ferry was about 2 hours late, but no one seemed bothered.

Our education continues! We camped on deck. The 6 or 7 Motorhomes lined up on an open but roofed part of the deck, shared with cars and the odd semi, and plugged into power. Then, at 1 a.m. we sailed and at 1.30 am, we went to sleep. Woken briefly at 4.30a.m. when the boat began to roll, and then again as we docked at 8 a.m. at Igoumenitsa, Northern Greece, where we had docked on the Brindisi ferry what seems like an eternity ago!!
