Enchanting Ethiopia

Time to head back to Africa. Why Ethiopia? Because a few years ago I did not know much about it but after seeing on TV, reading newspaper travel articles and hearing stories from fellow travellers who had been there, it was quickly added to my bucket list. Ethiopia has long been an intersection between the civilizations of North Africa, the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa. G Adventures had two trips that enabled me to see both the popular historic northern circuit and on the much less-visited southern remote part of Ethiopia, be able to briefly interact with various ethnic communities hill tribes. First up is a 12 day Ethiopia Discovery, Trip Code DES, to explore the enigmatic beehive houses of the Dorze and stopping in numerous villages for truly immersive cultural encounters with the Ari, Karo, Mursi, Hamer and Dassanech people. Along the way will visit two national parks and explore Lake Chamo by boat in search of crocodiles, hippos and bird life. Yes, several days will be camping. With 3 spare days before my northern trip starts, managed to arrange a side trip out east to the wall city of Harar. Then a 15 day Highlights of Ethiopia, Trip Code DEHE, to explore and discover rock-hewn churches in Lalibela and castles in Gondar, admire the monasteries of Lake Tana, discover the Simien Mountains and historical Axum. I am expecting a country rich with natural contrast, captivating human history and countless surprises ... so read on.
